Taiwan Church Planters

September Prayer Update

September 21, 2017

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100:4-5)

當稱謝進入他的門,當讚美進入他的院,當感謝他,稱頌他的名!因為耶和華本為善,他的慈愛存到永遠,他的信實直到萬代 (詩篇 100:4-5)

Sanxia Summer Saturdays at Grace Church

To our dear family in Christ,

In October it will be 4 years since we left the United States to begin our Missionary work in Taiwan. Annie and I are thankful for God’s faithfulness and provision during the past 4 years. God has provided for all of our needs through your prayers and support. We originally moved to Kaohsiung hoping to establish a Gospel-centered Church in that City, but after completing my formal language study at Kaohsiung Normal University, we realized that there were no other team members willing to move to Southern Taiwan to assist with Church Planting. We relocated to Sanxia because there were already some local co-workers living here who desired to help plant a new Reformed Church in this developing area of Northern Taiwan.

Now, after a little more than 1 year living in Sanxia, we are preparing to begin Sunday Worship services this upcoming Lord’s Day. We thank God that during the past year He has brought many new people to our fellowship as well as support from local Churches and individuals who share our vision for a Church that is committed to preaching Christ from all of Scripture as well as being warm, welcoming, and hospitable.

Please pray for the 1st of our 4 Pre-launch Worship services starting this upcoming Sunday morning at Grace Church. We will begin with a 4-week sermon series for those who have already committed to be a part of our Church plant, giving us time to work out the flow of our Worship services and to give us a chance to review our core values and vision. Our Church will then officially launch on Sunday, October 22nd.

We want to thank you for your prayers for our Summer VBS Camp which gave us the chance to reach out to more than 25 new families in the community. We taught English Bible stories and songs, Chinese Bible stories and songs, and also held cooking classes where every child had a chance to learn how to prepare simple dishes like dumplings or sushi rolls.

Our new location is working out very well and it provides a very strategic location in the community for outreach. Next month we are planning on beginning English classes and storytelling for children as well as English conversation classes for adults. Please pray that these classes would be a blessing to our neighbors and help to provide opportunities for us to clearly explain the Gospel. Most of our neighbors are not believers and very few have heard the message of Christ’s sacrificial death for His people. May God help us to proclaim this message with courage and with wisdom.

In addition to English classes, we have already held another baking class last week and will be hosting a speaker at the end of this month for parents to learn more about teaching children from a Biblical perspective. Please pray that those we meet and share our lives with through these outreach events at Grace Church will witness the love of Christ in our midst and open their hearts to learning more about the Gospel.

Additional Prayer Points:

1.Please pray for my sermon in Chinese this Sunday at Grace Church, that I will preach the Word of God clearly and with a humble reliance upon the Holy Spirit. Although my Chinese is slowly improving, preaching in Mandarin is still very difficult for me, so please pray that I would prepare well and rest in God’s work through me.

2. Please pray for Michael and Rachel who are our team members and were just married on August 5th. Pray that God would use them to be Gospel witnesses in Sanxia and that our Church Planting team would be united in the mission given to us in God’s Word.

3. Please pray for our Sunday Services and weekly fellowship meal afterwards to go smoothly, especially for our musicians and for Michael and me as we lead people through the order of Worship each week.

In Christ the True Shepherd,

The Pilsons
