November Prayer Update

Taiwan Church Planters

Life in Sanxia

We have been truly blessed to live in this amazing place, where our neighbors are friendly and open to conversation. Evelyn makes friends everywhere she goes and opens many doors for inviting people to our fellowship to hear the Word of God and experience the love of Christ.

In less than one month’s time we will get to meet our precious daughter Madelyn face to face. Annie is scheduled for a Cesarean on December 27th and we are thankful that my mom will be visiting for three weeks from the United States to help out. Please pray for Annie and baby.

Michael Liu has been leading us through the Gospel of John as we establish our vision for a Word-saturated, Gospel-proclaiming, and Christ-centered Church Plant in Sanxia. Although Michael has preached many times, this is the first time he has led a small group Bible study, so please pray that he would grow in his ability to lead and that the Lord would use his gifts to bless the Church in Taiwan.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:1-5)

Eric and Martin Tu (co-worker in Sanxia) at Hong En Church with guest Preacher from Holland

Thank you all for your generous support and steadfast prayers towards the Ministry of the Gospel here in Taiwan. Last week was a special Thanksgiving as we celebrated with many from the Reformed Seminary in Taipei and had the opportunity to reflect on all the ways in which God has displayed His great faithfulness throughout the year. We certainly do miss seeing you during the Holidays, but we are also grateful for the privilege it is to be part of what God is doing in Taiwan to make Christ and His Gospel known more deeply.

Sanxia Fellowship

God continues to draw new people to our fellowship every week, and not surprisingly, most people have found us through word of mouth or through personal invitation. Every week before digging into the Gospel of John we set aside some time to share our vision for planting a Reformed Church in Sanxia. Our desire is that our Church plant would be a covenant community that is completely committed to preaching and teaching the whole counsel of God and is also active in Evangelism and caring for the needs of our community through hospitality and mercy. Please pray that God would make this vision clear in the hearts and minds of those who will make up our core-group and that our leadership team would set a Godly example of this in our own lives.

Reaching Out

There are many opportunities in our community for interaction with our neighbors and we believe this is a unique location for Church planting in Taiwan because of the willingness of people to engage with those outside of their immediate circle of friends and family. Where we live in Sanxia is made up of many young families who have moved here in the past 5-10 years and haven’t necessary put down roots in terms of close relationships and friendships. We see this as a door for the Gospel because people may be searching for community and belonging, and our Church hopes to be a place where all people are welcome and shown hospitality and the love of Christ in tangible ways. Annie and I are often meeting new people here and yet their schedules can be quite full with work, travel, taking care of children, and just the general busyness that accompanies modern life. Please pray that God would use us to testify to the truth of Jesus Christ and that God would draw His people to Himself and give them a hunger and a thirst for righteousness.

We’ve been living here for three months now and I just finished leading a book study during the month of November. The book that we used was The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy and Kathy Keller. There were some who attended the study who truly opened up about their marital journeys and after listening to their stories, I was better able to show care for them and encourage them with God’s Word. One of my friends who is not yet a Christian also attended the study, please pray that she would come to know the Lord through our friendship and the words which I have shared with her.  I pray that God would give me strength, love and wisdom to be salt and light here in Sanxia. Thank you so much for remembering us in your prayers. I miss you all!

Prayer Points

1. Please pray for a young man who has been regularly attending our Friday night Bible Study. He is not yet a Christian but has been asking more about how to know God and the nature of saving faith. We are thankful for how God has been using the Gospel of John to reveal Christ to Derek and pray that he would soon place his trust in Jesus for salvation.

2. Please also pray for Martin and Michael, our two Taiwanese co-workers who share our vision for Christ-centered preaching, teaching, and counseling as well as fostering a community of love and grace. Martin is working full-time at the Reformed Seminary doing web design, video production, and other media related activities which means that his schedule is quite full. Michael will be graduating from the Seminary soon and is still undecided about whether he will stay in Taiwan after graduation. Having a team that shares the same church-planting vision and philosophy of Ministry is a tremendous blessing and I thank God for having the honor to labor with these two men of God.

We rely on your prayers and support and appreciate your year-end gifts towards the furthering of the Gospel here in Taiwan. To learn more about partnering with us and with the Lord’s work in Sanxia, please visit our website at taiwanchurchplanters.com
